Who Thinks We Have A Realistic Chance; of beating Villa on Sunday?

I do.

But only if we set our stall out in confident mood (which I think we will).

Last season we took the game to them and should have won (or at least gained a draw) but due to the diving antics of our rivals, we were denied both. I am hoping for more of the same mentality on Sunday.

Blues CAN beat Villa - no doubt about that. It all depends on how AMc sets us up and what frame of mind we approach the game.

A negative approach will see us lose.

If we go out and attack them from the off then yes, we are underdogs and they have beaten us on the last 6 meets with a 5-1 thrashing against us. What have we got to lose?

If we set our stall out to stifle their diving wide men, get stuck in in the middle (good thing Petrov's out) and have abit of luck off the ref we can definitely win!

To be honest, I don't think I'd mind if big Eck started 4-5-1 - albeit an attacking one. If we went man for man I think we could come unstuck.

Yep.Don't think there that much better, but do have pace, which is a bit of a worry.
Good thing is, all the vilers think they have already won.We all know it doesn't work like that.kro

Definitely can't go with the same shape we went with against Blackpool - they have pace down both wings so if we give them the chance to widen the pitch we'll get destroyed (that's every team we'll play by the way, not just the vile). I'd go with either 4-4-2 or start with 4-5-1 / 4-4-1-1 then change at half time if it's needed. I'm hoping Beausejour is fit as I think his pace would push back whoever they play on the right, Zigic has got to play IMO as he is becoming a proper threat now. Can't wait for the game though KRO

With Gardner back, we will have a stronger centre midfield than them but they have pacey wingers and we need to mark them out of the game really.
f we take the game to them and get stuck in then there's no reason why we cant come away with 3 points.
I'll go Villa 1 Blues 1

If the ref doesn't fall for Ashley Youngs antics then of course we're in with a big chance.

Of course we have a chance. I dont think it is likely that we will beat them - but we have a chance.

Villa will rightly start as favourites, but there's every chance that Blues can win. If they can get to half-time level, then Villa will start to get concerned.

Will always have a chance in these 'derby' games

They can go either way

It's about time one went our way though.........we ain't beat 'em since March of 2005 ....Heskey ...Ahem ! and Gray with the goals in a 2-0 win **thumbup

I'll gladly take the draw if it means ending their 6 on the trot winning streak

Historically 27 of the League meetings have ended in draws....that's quite a high percentage out ot the 108 League games played since 1893 ....they have the edge on victories with 45 to our 36

So Come On Blues

Agree if we get at them from the off and show them they are in for one hell of a battle then yes we can win.

If we go out in the right frame of mind and the team is set up right ,we are in there with a great chance,
I got the impression early on that Mcleish did not realise how much the games means to blues fans,
But we have guys in the team now who like to win ,
Im very confident this time.

would be happy with the draw, just to break this losing streak against them.

Would actually go out on the tiles if we win, which is very unusual for me as i dont know anywhere that has tiles except from Tubz & Tiles - so i will probably go there i suppose.

After changing my mind on a regular basis I've decided we can beat them if we go in with the right system....

-------------Zigic--------Jerome----------
--------------------Hleb--------------------
--------Gardner----------Larsson---------
-----------------Ferguson-----------------
Ridgewell---Dann----Johnson-----Carr
------------------Foster-------------------

If we could get an early goal with this formation then we've always got the option of bringning on Bowyer for Jerome (who's been out for a few weeks) and will probably tire and set up with the more defensive....

-------------------Zigic----------------------
Hleb------Gardner-----Bowyer-----Larsson
------------------Ferguson------------------
Ridgewell---Dann-----Johnson-------Carr
-------------------Foster--------------------

The threat of there team is definitely down the flanks though, so I actually feel we'd be more solid defensively with the first formation as Gardner and Larsson are pretty hard working and would protect the full backs (especially as both are able to play fullback themselves).

Its the first time in a long while that im not dreading it and feel optomistic about our chances.

Although i would take a draw now.

Dream result being 3-0 Blues with Gardner, Ridgewell scoring and a late goal from super sub Phillips.

Taken from 'Vile Chat'

Can anyone clarify which key players will be fit and which will be injured for the blues game?

Am I right in Saying that the following will miss the game?

A. L. Young
G. Agbonlahor
E. Heskey
S. Petrov
R. Dunne

Im worried. This is the first derby ive gone into for a long time where ive thought SHA could realistically get something
